Winter has just begun! While it’s time to say bye to all the damage caused by the summers to your hair, it’s also time to start preparing a hair care regimen that’s winter-proof. As winter means, a whole new set of troubles for your tresses. During winters, the dry and dreary cold weather can wreak havoc on your strands, leading to split ends and breakage, if the right precautions aren’t taken. Not to forget the frizz and static that often comes with your winter wardrobe.
In an attempt to have perfect tresses this winter, there are a few steps you can take.
Control Frizz
Static or frizz is the most annoying thing about winter. Your winter wardrobe items like sweaters, hoods, gloves, scarves, and beanies all seem to get on your hair, making it a messy, frizzy wreck. Use a ventilated hair brush that has a mix of plastic and boar bristles when combing the hair to fix this. Just wash your hair with lukewarm water, avoid hot water, as the latter strips away the natural oils that protect and nourish your skin. To keep your hair smooth, add a leave-in conditioner.
Olive Oil for Hair
Take olive oil and warm it up then massage it slowly on your scalp. The slow process of massaging helps the oil to penetrate deep into the roots. It will not only keep the scalp moisturized but also improves the blood circulation, ensuring that hair follicles get enough nourishment. It prevents hair fall too. Also, use a few drops of the oil to coat the entire length of the hair as a deep conditioning treatment.
Use warm or cool water for hair wash
It is convenient to raise the water temperature up in the colder months, but try not to wash your hair in hot water instead use warm or cool water to avoid harm to the hair. Hot water may dry your hair and damage the delicate skin of your scalp, which may be extra sensitive during the winter.
Don’t step out with wet hair
Take out time to either blow-dry your hair or let them dry naturally before going outside. Your hair can take a long time to dry in cold weather, and if your hair freezes, you risk breakage.
Keep hair and scalp hydrated
If you are dehydrated, it will definitely show on the body and hairs too. So make sure you drink plenty of water to keep your hair and scalp hydrated. Also using leave-in moisturizes will help a dry scalp caused by winter weather and temperature fluctuations between indoors and outdoors.
Avoid over heat-styling your hair
Avoid the use of devices such as hair dryers and curling irons, as heat will dry your hair and scalp, increasing the risk of potential harm to hair. Also the heat and dryness can result in split ends. Consider protective styles such as braids, buns, twists, and ponytails that give your hair some time off the heat routine.
Trim hair regularly
It doesn’t matter whether you have long or short hair, winter season can make the ends of your hair dry and brittle. Getting regular trims will keep your hair in excellent condition and reduce the risk of having split ends.
