Baldness is a hair loss condition that affects millions of men and women worldwide. Like most signs of aging, male or female pattern baldness doesn’t happen overnight.
Balding is a slow process that can take anywhere from a few short years to several decades. It’s always worth keeping an eye out for early signs of baldness and then taking appropriate hair loss treatment. As you know, prevention is better than cure. One of the keys to stopping hair loss is noticing the signs of baldness and taking the best hair fall treatment as early as possible. While the outbreak is different for each gender, one simple fact remains the same: the earlier you catch it, the easier it is to handle.
There are some signs of baldness that you can use to identify and deal with hair loss. We’ve listed these signs that you should be aware of:
Change in hairline
The most evident indication of baldness is a significant shift in your hairline that you can obviously see in your mirror or photos. Baldness often starts in the hairline, with the flat or slightly receding hairline that you had earlier turned into a more apparent V-shaped hairline. For most individuals, this begins around the temples and often usually starts with thinning rather than total hair loss. If you can compare two pictures captured years apart and see that your hairline has receded, it’s a clear indication that you’re experiencing hair loss.
Thinning of hair
Not all folks are going bald out of their hairline. Some men and women encounter what is called diffuse thinning, a particular type of hair loss that either impacts the entire scalp or particular zones such as the crown which results in baldness that begins from the back or the top, rather than from the hairline. Just like a receding hairline, the simplest way to find diffuse thinning is to match pictures from different stages of life. If you can see that your hair now appears slimmer than the pictures taken a few years earlier, there’s a possibility that it’s the repercussion of baldness.
Excessive hair loss
It’s common to lose your hair when you’re showering, brushing or combing. On average, individuals lose about 100 hairs a day, which means that the four to five hairs you see in your hands after shampooing are not something to worry about. However, if you begin to notice an excessive number of hairs coming out all day, there is a threat that it might be the outcome of baldness.
Before you feel anxious, it’s important to know that temporary hair loss can happen and that shedding a lot of hair for a day or two is not necessarily a cause for alarm. Hair loss may happen owing to many triggers, varying from travel-induced jetlag to sunburn, weight loss, or fever. This sort of hair loss is generally manageable, which means that you will find a slightly larger number of hairs in your hands and on your brush for a week or two only. You might also find loose hair on your pillow in the morning. But if you notice a significant number of hairs loss every day for a considerable period, you should take hair loss treatment at earliest.
The three early signs above are excellent indicators that you need to think about taking action to prevent your hair loss. However, there are also frequently recurring indications of baldness that are not as accurate for the identification of hair loss. These include the following –
- Itchy scalp, generally triggered by dry, sticky skin or excessive quantities of sebum, neither of which contributes to long-term hair loss.
- Thin hairs after you swim or shower, which is more often the consequence of your hair clumping together and exposing your scalp than actual hair loss. To inspect your hair loss carefully, it’s always best to compare your hair’s pictures when it’s dry and unstyled.
- A widow’s peak, a dominant genetic trait, not an indication of hair loss or susceptibility to hair loss.
- A few hairs on your pillow or soap bar that are perfectly normal and not an accurate indication that you’re losing an unusual amount of hair.
- A white ‘bulb’ on the hair that flows naturally. This simply indicates that the hair was in the telogen phase when it fell out, and doesn’t mean that it won’t grow back as usual.
- A bald grandfather on one side of your family. Scientists still don’t know exactly how the baldness is inherited, and a bald father or grandfather doesn’t guarantee that you’re going to go bald.
